I find it very interesting that a person who never lived in the 1980’s and 90’s could activate the lizard brains of those who did. The hyperreality that the director consumed was sufficient to allow him to reproduce the imagery with a really high level of fidelity.
I am sure there are plenty of defunct locations to visit to collect material, but to see them filled with some sort of life, as they were originally, seems like it is unnecessary to really capture its essence. The presence of humans is ancillary.
