It’s actually not strange for a crescent moon to be presented as horns. There is old symbolism that uses the crescent moon explicitly as horns. Sin (Suen) was the Mesopotamian moon god in the Babylonian period. They actually identified Him as Nanna for the full moon and Sin (Suen) for the crescent moon. I think this is actually where the Syn in Synagogue comes from too but it’s been a while since I looked into it. Other gods of the night and moon have also been represented by the crescent moon displayed as a bulls horns.
