It’s just not the calculus driving the decisions for escalation or deescalation. What drives it is “what does a war actually buy us?”. Deterrence is more than MAD, it’s just: “Does cost outweigh benefit of action X”, which gets lost in totalizing terminology like MAD.

Just a quick correction from P&B, you mentioned that Daniel Haqiqitajou converted to Sunni Islam from Shia Islam.
