I’m going to disagree partially on the military members carrying guns on base. Certain occupations other than MP’s and DOD police should be able to carry firearms on base. I served in 3rd battalion 75th Ranger Regiment and had more training with firearms than a large police department SWAT team. I was sent overseas heavily armed with the task of killing or detaining combatants but yet I can’t carry on base stateside unless very limited circumstances apply? It was something that never made sense.
From memory it was an Obama era thing maybe you can correct me? I don’t know when that came in.
It is actually kinda silly that door kickers can’t carry on base, maybe not the cooks and janitors, and definitely not
the brass they’ll blow their foot off 😁.

No Bill Clinton was the one who put the order in place. He made it so the Provost marshal had very limited exceptions who could carry a loaded firearm on base outside of the range, weapons inspections/test fires, and MP’s/DOD Police. So basically everyone else was unarmed. It is absurd that special operations and NCO/commissioned officers were not allowed to carry on base.
