Allan Arkin was in the buddy-cop film Freebie & the Bean with James Caan – probably the platonic ideal early “70’s film”. There’s another called Busting with Elliot Gould as the jew but its not as good.

According to that dude “Not just bikes” car chases used to be paid advertising for car companys.
Dont know if true, but it seem at least plausible to me.
Cars were just cooler in the 70s. All that late 60s and early 70s. Murican Muscle. Good nuff excuse to have a car chase in every 70s movie.

I guess the 70s rural Appalachia/South movie is Deliverance, and that’s just a big old heap of no thanks, I don’t want to be an inbred banjo player or a rapist.

You New Yorkers and your weird 70s crime movies. I guess I’m that way with 80s sword movies, gimme some Conan, some Beastmaster, some Red Sonja, some Willow, some a bunch of other shit I don’t really remember the names of and probably not all that good in retrospect. I guess Clash of the Titans is 70s and you can tell, then there were those Sinbad movies that were I think the 60s. That’s what I want in a movie, some skeletons and monsters and scantily clad warrior babes and comic relief ferrets.

Gene Hackman did a follow up surveillance movie in the 1990s with the magic negro Will Smith in Enemy of the State.
