Even before Dave Mustaine Boomer’d it up later on, his understanding of geopolitics was a bit…weak. His inspiration for Holy Wars…The Punishment Due was caused when he was playing at the Antrim Forum in Northern Ireland and drunkenly made a pro-IRA statement. For those not in the know, Antrim Town is a very unionist and not nationalist town, so this caused a massive riot and the band had to be escorted in a bullet proof bus for the remainder of their time there. The Troubles also wasn’t really a religious conflict despite Mustaine’s trademark snarky lyrics.
