I agree with Sven that movie violence is better when it’s haphazard and sloppy. This is especially so with guns, which more often than not are portrayed like toy super weapons. I love the scene in “Fargo” where Steve Buscemi shoots the grandpa who returns fire with an agonizing, but non-lethal, knock-down shot to Buscemi’s face.
Also, Harrison Ford in “The Fugitive” is a great example of a male Mary Sue. He’s like Neil Breen in how perfect he is at everything he does.

Recently watched Star Trek strange new worlds, actually enjoyed it.
Usually I’d defend some plotholes and stupidity in media, but Alien Earth was too much. It’s just poorly written TV show.
I can sympathize with Alex in that there were some interesting concepts and themes but my autistic fixation is screenwriting and this season is first draft quality writing. Workshopping in the writers room and a few more rewrite drafts could have easily cleaned up the sloppy beats and characterization. My biggest issue is it didn’t get to important plot points fast enough and completely failed to reach others. It wasted the kirsh subplot and blueballed is with the eyeball.
