Reflecting on the whole “it’s not constitutional to legislate against gay marriage” thing, the whole process of Constitutional Law is just stupid. They treat the Constitution like it’s an objective moral arbiter that can be used as a standard to dictate decisions on the direction of culture. Just got home from watching Weapons and with the most recent school shooting still so fresh in the mind I’m in a deep funk. Thoroughly depressed about the whole phenomenon and the seemingly higher and higher pace of these things happening. I’m 180 degrees different opinion on the idea of bringing charges against parents of the shooters. The first time I heard about that happening I thought it was such a breach of the rights of these parents that didn’t know their kid was gonna go do that etc etc but now I’m thinking you’ve got a responsibility to know… Read more »
Parents having that kind of responsibility for the crimes of the children in their home might have some interesting second order effects. Like more (mostly troublesome) teenagers becoming homeless when they turn 18 as their parents mitigate the risk of prosecution by kicking the ungrateful little bastards out. This could surely be beneficial for some kids in the long run, but far from all.
