I’m much more of a Roman history guy than a church historian and I know that the early Christians in the empire considered Jews to be heretics. There is a story where some Christians defaced a synagogue and Emperor Theodosius ordered them to repair it and Ambrose of Milan said no. He considered Jews as heretics. Theodosius complied with Ambrose. This is basically where the combination of church and state began.
