My wife and I bought in 2021 by saving all of our Covid bux, but it genuinely feels like we were running towards a closing garage door and rolled underneath just in time. Our home’s value has gone up by $200k since purchasing it, so there’s zero chance we’d even be able to afford it if we were buying today.
In 2024 a study found that the majority of people who purchased a home in 2023 were above the age of 50 and it was a secondary home they were buying not a primary residence. In my area of North Carolina I can testify that this is indeed happening. A home down the street from me was bought a year ago and it has been vacant ever since selling. It’s definitely harder for my age group, but I was born in 1989 and there is plenty of my cohort who has purchased homes. I mean it definitely depends on where you live… If you live in any major city or newly built suburb sure that may be our of price range, but normal houses in normal towns you can still afford. He would also listen to the premier SoCal anti-immigrant RW radio hosts John and Ken. Hearing you talk about that kind of talk radio brings back a lot of memories.
