I think trying to make your music “perfect” is self-defeating. I also think black metal is a superior form of metal because it has significantly more elaborate takes on what the purpose is of a mix in the music. You’re not crazy about ‘The Glory’ and the bass sounding off. There is a spot where it sounds off but it isn’t. It’s just a happy accident between the guitar and bass tones I think. But I think I know exactly what you’re talking about.
I know most guys may not like Youthanasia but to me that was the last Megadeth album that was Megadeth if you know what I mean. Cryptic Writings was good on the guitar level, if even, but holy hell Risk is horrendous. I don’t think we need to re-litigate all of those 2004 re-recordings since that was Dave “proving” he could still play guitar after ripping his tendons in 2001/2002. Music being this amorphous blob right now does discourage me from playing guitar but you don’t innovate by not playing, you know.
The title track was okay. Megadeth has basically sucked since Rest in Peace. I’d even go as far to say that I don’t really care about any other album in the Megadeth discog – they’re all relatively forgettable. Peace Sells… just felt really rough around the edges. Has a few memorable songs but nothing I see myself wanting to listen to again.
