holy shit, Sven — we’re EVAP LEAK buddies. i’ve been dealing with a mysterious CHECK ENGINE light (and GAS CAP light) since October 2023. i’ve taken my wheels to two different mechanics, replaced the entire fucking fuel tank ($2000), and still this light will come back on within 72 hours of resetting the ECM. Gas cap replaced, multiple ‘purge valve nipples’ and smoke tests. both mechanics said the same thing — the diagnostic tool is claiming that there’s an EVAP LEAK somewhere in the system, but nobody can seem to find it. so ive been dealing with it for going on… Read more »
My understanding is at start, engines need to run richer than normal operation. Rich means incomplete combustion, which means non-reacted volatiles and soot in the exhaust. This is what would need to be catalyzed by the catalytic converter. Except chemical reaction rate is directly tied to temperature, so a cold converter is going to let most of that exhaust pass through it unchanged. Once the engine is running, the fuel/air ratio is adjusted to as close as ideal as possible, and less-to-no non-reacted material is in the exhaust. Man. Sentence structure in Spanish and German are so foreign from English. I’ve been learning the former two for a couple years and it’s so weird to switch between the three. It’s like mentally uninstalling and installing a mod in your brain.
It helps if you read old English. For example “How goes it?” -> Wie geht’s?
Modern English speakers don’t speak like that anymore so the sentence structure seems so foreign.
