I too had a natural revulsion to Neil Gaiman prior to understanding the JQ. I read American Gods and Anansi Boys on account of glowing praise from a nerdy friend. I thought it was trash and afterwards I poked fun at the guy for liking Gay Man. I also hated Neverwhere for attempting to make disgusting city aesthetic look cool and magical. Fantasy can be creative and interesting without being smutty and dark. My Neighbor Totoro is soulful, wholesome and better than anything Gaiman could ever produce.
