I could not go through this tech shit. My temper is not geared for stuff that “doesn’t work” (until you spend hours on the most basic features). Godspeed or smash it.

Mike, you don’t want to use exFat for Windows. It’s significantly slower than ntsf. Type “ntsf vs exfat” into ChatGPT.

Sven, your Mac can boot Windows. You can put a bootable USB with a Windows recovery suite (tons of pirated IT suites floating around such as Sergei Strelec) into your Mac, and have access to all the same tools you would on Windows.

Why would you ever buy an Apple product? If your deadset on not using Windows I get that but I just could never justify buying an Apple product. I don’t want to be the “just use Linux” guy but Linux Mint is probably just better for the use case here.
I think I was mainly thinking about the show production stuff, but yeah I could also see how getting DAWs might be a bit of a hassle. I know Reaper runs natively, but setting other ones up that are Windows-based would probably require some fiddling with Proton, although admittedly I haven’t looked much into professional audio software that is on offer for Linux systems.
this is why as an intellectual i just pirate windows and don’t worry it

Not to shill for Apple, but is Sven aware he can get moderate discounts through Apple’s Education program? You literally don’t have to do anything to get the education discount other than click “Education” at the bottom of the page, then click “For k-12” or “For College”. https://www.apple.com/us-edu/store
Also Mike you’re wrong on NTFS. It’s proprietary but it’s not encrypted (unless you use bitlocker), and there’s no legal or technical barriers in Apple having an NTFS driver bundled with the OS. It’s purely Apple being Apple and being difficult just for the sake of doing it.
Going back after pasting and manually deleting the copied files is how I accidentally deleted data i wanted to keep sadly. Also cuz i’m a careless retard
You know you’re approaching boomer territory when you don’t know if it was the machine or you that messed up.

I’m gonna guess the last time you ran data recovery was on a spinning-rust HDD. SSDs intentionally run garbage collection to better their lifespan, which has the side effect of making data recovery difficult.
The solution as always is to use a 3-2-1 backup system and stop being a macfag.
We’re approaching the end of Moore’s law. In 6-8 years CPUs are going to reach the maximum in terms of transistors/speed etc. Designing better & better AI chips is going to be the vogue at that point and maybe the beginning of the quantum computing era.
Gimp has been getting slowly but steadily better over the years. Biggest problem with it is it’s taken 20 years and counting for version 3.0. Sure it doesn’t offer everything that Photoshop does, but it also won’t rape your bank account every month just to use it.

Professional audio software does not run on Linux

Sven, hold up metal horns with both hands, and see what you get. ; )
I have been using Mac for thirty years and I am laughing so hard. Don’t worry, you’ll love it and in the meantime, it will be great content.
You can cut and paste. Cmd+C to copy, then Cmd+Alt+V to paste and delete the original files.
Everything (except gaming) is better on Mac. Be patient.

Tech support advice Sven didn’t ask for:
Move files is in the context menu:Then just hold “option” down when you right click in your destination. The “move item here” option will be in the menu.
