Oh lord I know way too much about town building and reno permits for decks and sheds and renovation of old (historic) homes, and that’s just from high status renovation projects. Heh. Also I know far more than is normal hobby activity re: freshwater aquariums with live plants… must resist… must… The TOWN may have an arborist that is concerned with the actual tree situation. The more you have old big hardwoods in your town (historic area, etc.) the more likely the town with have their own arborist. For building permits, the smaller the city government, the better. Idk why but I’m enjoying prep more than the show lately.
If you don’t make a big deal about stuff and act like you’re doing things properly, it’s usually fine. I mentioned in another post that some cities/small towns have their own arborist and they actually care about old hardwood trees and actual management of the “canopy” as they put it to me once. People like nice old trees; if you can cut down in a controlled fashion and not just rip out everything, people are going to be OK with it. We just took out the big problem branches on huge old oaks and pecan trees, no permit, no nothing.… Read more »

Mike, two things:
1. The high-status term for a terrarium with living things is a vivarium.
2. Dart frog vivariums are a high status venture most often compared with reefkeeping. There’s a lot of crossover between those two hobbies.
Also, don’t flush fish. You risk introducing diseases to local fish populations. Just throw them in the trash.
If you flush your fish, you might as well use a buried cement mixer as a septic tank. You’re polluting local waterways in both cases.

I’ve been watching a lot of videos and interviews with Palestinians (many children). It’s insane how a kid in Palestine rn is less fucked yo in the head and socially awkward than your typical American kid.

We removed about 8 trees from our property. Never filed for a permit.
