The point of Offsides rule in soccer:
All of the field team sports are obviously simulated warfare. If you hang out by the enemy camp, you would get killed. But we don’t want the players just beating each other up. So we have Offsides rules as a substitute, albeit a poor and confusing one.
Also it would be an even crappier game if you could just hang out by the opposing goal waiting for a lucky lob to knock it in.
