At the meta level, “why did this happen” isn’t an important philosophical question for a detective because *it is a solved problem*, we already know why people kill other people. The concentration of human motives to kill is rather limited and can probably be categorized in one or two distinct ways. The detective building motive is more about building the exact details of the crime to make a legal case, which is a very specific thing. Having been a pharmaceutical manufacturer, batching is just a way to trace individual production runs to allow more efficient recalls. We would make batches of 100+ million doses at a time to be batched into 1000 dose stock bottles…you need to be able to trace production for recalls if errors in production or quality arise.
