I was wrongly remembering that the Byzantines destroyed it but I can’t find any information about the Samaritans rebuilding their temple after the Maccabeans, and I’m too lazy to do real in depth research. Emperor Zeno did repress a Samaritan revolt and built a Church on Mt. Gerizim; there were a number of Samaritan revolts in the 400s/500s which were suppression after which the Samaritans went into gradual decline in numbers.
The Age of Judaism vs Christianity is a matter of definitions. If you think canonization of books and codification of creeds is all important, Christianity is older.
That’s not what Jews think is important however; the basics of Jewish law and religious tradition are older than Christianity. It just took longer to finalize the evolution of their various religious texts. They were reacting in part to the loss of their temple and the rise of Christianity.
If Christianity hadn’t become the Roman state religion it would have probably taken a lot longer to finalize the Christian canon and creed.

However, the site of their former temple on Mt. Gerizim is still available for the Samaritans to gather and worship on, whereas the Jews can’t worship on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem because reasons.
On rereading what’s available with a quick internet search it appears the Samaritan temple was destroyed by the Maccabean Jews in about 110 BC. It’s not clear in my brief review if the Samaritan temple was ever rebuilt but apparently Hadrian did build a pagan temple on the site and whatever was left was destroyed by emperor Zenon in 484 AD and a church was built on the site. Nothing currently there now but ruins.
