That bridge seemed to be pretty well built. Yeah it fell fast, but it came down in pretty big chunks and a lot of it stayed together. That one cantilever section tipping over and falling off the pier in one peice is nuts.

Without looking my guess is things like the Tampa Bay Skyway probably get classified as a bridge and technically blow this thing out of the water. But as Mike States, 1.6 Mi is a big ass Bridge. Growing up in the Philly area we have several big ass Bridges, and I don’t know if any of them are that long. On the car door thing, you can’t open the door when the car is sinking because there’s too much water pressure on the large surface area of the door to push it open. Once the air leaks out and the car fills with water almost entirely, you can push it open again. As far as I’m aware, there’s no mechanism that does this automatically though. Opening the window is still the best bet, like Mike said.
As for submerged electric cars, basically what you get is the batteries can rupture or be chemically damaged, basically rendered inert, when submerged in water but regardless its not going to be live and functionally discharging electricity for more than a split second. Toxic chemical leaks are more likely and serious. You don’t have a real path for electric current to flow; the “toaster in the bathtub” is plugged into the wall outside the tub and has a grounding path, live power line is obviously dangerous, way higher wattage, and has a conductive path. EVs have their batteries in the bottom of the vehicle. Here in New England the roads are in poor repair and full of potholes and covered in salt and sand in winter. The undersides of my vehicles usually rust out in 10 years or so. I had to replace an axle last month due to hitting something. Damage to batteries is inevitable, resulting in either expensive replacements or worse an explosion and/or fire.
