disabling the center diff and going fwd mode doesn’t actually get you better gas mileage because the rear wheels are still having to rotate the prop shaft. The only systems that do are ones like audi’s new quattro-ultra on some of their new lower end cars, where they have clutches on both ends of the prop shaft that disconnect it.
