Alex’s comment about the Tesla cybertruck may not be too far from popular sentiment. Does anybody else remember when Tesla told us that the reason for the angular design was to bring down production costs so they could bring it in at about $40,000? Anybody? No? Just me I guess lol. Anyway now they’re saying you can’t touch one of these things for under 65-70,000 in the try motor is going to be well over $100,000. Alex, trucks are not generally designed to have have crumple zones. The so called “crumple zones” are usually for cars, while trucks have reinforced frames which are usually incompatible with a crumple zone type approach. The Cybertruck is not special in this regard.
Cybertruck is a unibody design not a ladder frame. Also IRS with rear wheel steering.

That is absolutely true, I would just say that it is a bit closer to a body on frame than nearly any other unibody due to the heavy use of near-monolithic castings in the front and rear. The use of those castings would preclude a lot of crumple, and is probably why we see the crash behavior we do, somewhat more like a body on frame vehicle. As for the rest, you’re probably right! It just triggered my structural autism.
