Those old Charlton Heston bible movies had some very overt comparisons between the Romans and the NSDAP. I forget which one now, but it has a scene near the opening where Roman centurions are actually giving Roman salutes, against a backdrop of banners, standards, and eagles. It’s intended to evoke an NSDAP rally, and it’s all filmed to make it look as sinister and evil as possible. And the protagonist in those films is always a plucky little Jew or slave who challenges the big evil Romans and wins because he has God on his side.
