I read some that 80% of americans are obese. At first I was like “no way” but then realized, yeah it’s probably true.
More like 65 to 75% I’d say, and the ones of us who aren’t obese are like super skinny, the fatties don’t leave us any food. America is a horrifying post-apocalyptic wasteland.
It’s not that high (yet), but about 35% of US adults are obese and 35% are overweight, meaning that nearly 3/4ths of the adult population are at least overweight. Don’t worry though, we’ll get there!
The really sad thing is how young the fatties are. Case in point. Have not gone to a movie in the theater in years, but when I saw Christopher Nolan’s (Communist apologia) movie Oppenheimer in genuine 70mm IMAX this Summer, I was not too surprised that a lot of Gamers were there too (unless I am wrong and that they were really waiting to see Barbie). If you’d want to figure out the cause, you’d probably want to look at Japan, one of the lowest obesity rates in the world even compared to 3rd world countries (Even several African countries that we have data for) and see what’s different compared to fat countries, it’s not just America, Qatar is the fattest last I checked, Mexico, etc. I’m very skeptical that it’s primarily food quality, though that has declined. Ethanol fuel is actually great. Burns cooler cleaner and has a higher octane rating than regular pump gas. If you have an old car with a non ethanol rated fuel system thats the only thing it can screw up. Ive been using it in performance applications for over 10 years and i got to say ethanol fuel burns so much cleaner it will keep an engine running for ever. Plus all fuels these days have aroun 10% ethanol in it already. I myself have been using 80%+. Im sure other car guys on here can atest to what im saying.
Yeah, aside from the fact that Ethanol fuel is usually made from corn instead of waste cellulose, it is not a bad fuel unless you need a higher caloric value. Ethanol is a perfectly fine fuel if you can keep it from collecting too much water. However, Ethanol contains far less energy per unit of volume or mass than gasoline or diesel fuel does. Even if your fuel line does not contain iron, rubber or plastic fittings that will dissolve or rust, you would use hardened valves and higher compression ratios. Ive used it in marine performance applications without issues as far as moisture or water collection and it does take more engery (fuel) to create the same amount of power but being that it burns so much more cool you can go alot more aggressive on how lean you can go on part throttle tuning which make it very close if not better than pump gas 93. Ive done a couple cars that get 35-40 mpg and make 550 wheel horsepower out of a 4cyl turbo application. Never had any valvetrain issues with it in the 12 years or so… Read more »

Trees capture the carbon but re release it when they die and rot. The problem is not that but the carbon that was released from massive underground deposits that we have been pumping out of the ground for the last 100 years. Unfortunately growing trees will not help with this problem.

Well, good news, prior to humanity, the Earth’s atmosphere was in a several tens of millions of years long trend of atmospheric carbon depletion, atmospheric carbon levels were getting dangerously close to falling below 120 ppm which starts shutting down photosynthesis. So, we averted a mass die off by coming along and burning fossil fuels, though had we not come along, the rotting off from the massive die off likely would be re-introducing atmospheric carbon to a level roughly the same as our industrial activity outputs though over a longer period of time. Megatons of carbon from primordial swamps and other sources have been released in massive scales well before humans or even mammals existed on this planet. I mean, we shouldn’t deliberately tempt fate, but there is very little we do that Nature itself hasn’t done in its own course and far more destructively.

The only emissions that come from this method are transportation costs and excavation/pumping. Plants are very good at capturing carbon using renewable energy (photosynthesis), so it can be made net emissions negative pretty easily through forest management. I had to look at the video directly, and that’s what i saw too. I don’t really know how efficient these sequestration cars are, and it’s speculative at this point. Like everything carbon capture, it has no business case aside from government subsidies and carbon taxes. These incentives do exist though, whether we like it or not, so they may be able to force it to work purely through big-money and government power.
