Remember though that West Indians can claim to be the “rightful” owners of both North and South America according to your reasoning. Migrants from South of the Border can say that they are simply reconquering what rightfully belongs to the descendants of the “Clovis Culture”. The truth is that Africa belongs to those who control Africa and Europe belongs to those who control Europe just as the Americas, Asia and Australia belong to those who control them. Land belongs to the conquerors and the conquered posses nothing. This has been the case for Mankind since before history began and is… Read more »

I think it is a bit reductionist to paint the picture that it is only Westerners who describe Russia as a border culture between Europe and Asia – and that this should only be interpreted as black propaganda and slander. Even within Russia, this perception is strong, and it has existed for a long time. Emphasizing the Asian feature of Russian culture has often been a way for Russians to assert themselves against negative influence from the West.
Russians are of course genetically fully European, but culturally and civilizationally it’s a different story.
I think a lot of that was Cold war propaganda. before the Czar was killed I think Russia was always considered part of Europe. but yeah they have a frontier there with Asia. a lot of European countries don’t let them become part of Europe
No it’s older. Russia is part of Europe in the sense that they are white and christian. But core-Europe is the old Carolingian Empire. The culture of this core area expanded and came to include most of present day Europe. Russia was only Superficially affected by developments in core Europe. and had long periods of isolation and parallel development.
Yes. Europe extends geographically to the Urals, but the idea that Russia is spiritually torn between the East and the West goes back to the Old Believers and Peter the Great who was a Westernizing monarch. Spengler makes much of the idea that Westernization was “pseudo-morphic,” or false-forming upon the nature of the Russian soul. Whatever that means. I don’t really buy into this much, because Peter I is regarded by the Russians today as about as Russian as it gets ─ and he mostly just imported technology and modern administrative ideas from the West. But Russia remained incontrovertibly backward… Read more »
