Nothing’s more frustrating than trying to anticipate the behavior of bullets and numbering in a Word document you didn’t create.

Thank you Mike and Sven for everything you do for all the TRS subscribers and NJP supporters. Your work absolutely never goes unappreciated. I deal with the exact same technical difficulties with all the industry standard programs I use for my work, it’s absolutely ridiculous whether it’s due to programming or compatibility issues.

Libre office is way better than open office and their writer can export pdfs. I use it all the time, default settings, output always look slick

Every day I identify 100 uniquely retarded and unnecessary problems that wouldn’t exist if Germany had won the war. I’m glad to be among fellow travelers who see the same things, but it still drives me insane.

I honestly would rather debug a code file with one function that’s 1000 lines vs 15 different code files with 20 functions that’s are 5 lines each. Most code repos are horrible Frankensteins of people who theory cel way too much trying to “do things right” and other people who don’t give a shit doing band aid solution to complete their ticket and move on. And then these repos history have these huge commits of 15-20 different file changes all to update ONE page. All software is barely held together with duct tape and bubble gum. Everything is incredibly fragile… Read more »

Among software people, word processors are basically deprecated. We tend to edit and store documents in plain text markup formats like Markdown or reStructuredText and then when it needs to be presented/printed/shared, it gets transformed into HTML or PDF. Don’t know how that would apply to the specific use-case in question.

MS Word isn’t expensive, you can buy a permanent license key online for like $30.

The way it works is that microsoft still sells keys in big batches for corporations and some people buy and re-sell those. I’ve been using one for years across multiple machines.

It’s better than OpenOffice. Just buy a key.

It’s funny, Microsoft attempted to make it impossible to resell them, but EU’s bureaucrat gang insisted on making it legal on consumer protection grounds so they were just forced to eat shit.

my company is looking to start from scratch. to be competitive, we threw some shit together slapped on top of our existing base. turns out all our competitors have made their apps just as slow, unwieldy, and complex. we don’t let the POC touch code, they can do scripting and styling, but the actual compiled code is for whites.

KDEN Live is free open source video editing software, easy to use, and has a lot of functionality.

Have you tried libreoffice?.. A bunch of developers bailed from openoffice and forked a new project.

They have a windows version: https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/

Things would have been so much better if the LibreOffice people were allowed to have the OpenOffice brand, because even though that split happened a long time ago, OpenOffice still has more brand recognition for whatever reason.

The new Word is annoying. For the first time in my life I had to fully turn off spelling and grammar correction because it was so problematic. And, if you dare type a French word, it auto-changes your language setting which affects things like punctuation and spacing. Totally made it worse.

adobe pisses me off and i hate GIMP cause i have 6 million hours of experience in photoshop and it jsut feels obtuse.
I feel the same way trying to use blender after a hundred trillion hours on MAYA.

Blender is getting better and better, it’s kinda like the swiss army knife of multimedia software. I’d recommend quit complaining and do a tutorial one weekend.
