My grandfather was offered a promotion to captain from 1LT and made a pilot instead of a bombardier if he extended his contract when the Army Air Corps became the chair farce. I have not read the Russian book. As for the other book if you mean Conquering Berlin by Wilfrid Bade then I have read it and it is FANTASTIC! I HIGHLY recommend it!
