Ignatius Riley was the main character in A Confeferacy of Dunces. It was a cult classic in 1980. Won a Pulitzer in 1981. My shitlib parents owned a copy. Unless you’re really into modern American literature you’re unlikely to have heard of it. It is an amusing read. Whenever I think of modern eCatholics I picture them as terminally online Ignatius Riley wannabes.
It’s the kind of book Moike’s parents might have had on their bookshelf, too. Or maybe not. My mom was a writer with a literature degree.

Moike’s parents remind me a bit of my own, although mine are/were of an older generation (Silent) and not as aspirational—they pretty much were stuck in 1950s liberalism and didn’t really “get” anything post-civil rights era.
A Confederacy of Dunces is a good read. Moike would enjoy it. It was actually written in the early 1960s and you can tell; the gay stuff still felt edgy and marginal and the cultural conservatism feels normal. Even when published in 1980 this was still mostly the case, but fading rapidly.
