I saw Syriana in theaters when I was in high school, read See No Evil (the book that it was based on) then read one of Baer’s other books called The Devil We Know, and I’ve been an Iran shill ever since. I doubt any of that stuff would hold up now 18ish years later, but it did influence me enough that I wrote my 2007 senior term paper on why the US was going to lose the war in Afghanistan, and those clout chips aged like fine wine.

I’ve watched that sub guys channel for a while, I believe he is ex US Navy sub officer and just loves submarines and the related tech. He has a lot of good videos on sub incidents and both US and Soviet models of sub. Very interesting, some of the soviet/Rus cold war tech was way ahead of its time despite the financial difficulties they faced in the 80s and 90s. I recommend the channel if you are into historical military technology
