The “reason” for Cockerill’s camera angle – the image is supposed to create an effect of a God like being condescending to speak to the mortal peasants. The viewer is “literally looking up” to him. Answering to him. Please note that this is a very common “editorial” place in films and Talmudvision shows.

There were multiple alleged means of mass killings during the war — gassing, burning, electrocution, steaming, brain bashing machines, roller coasters of death, masturbation machines, etc. Gassing was chosen after the war as it was the least implausible, while still being “more sinister” than mere shooting.
