The major difference between Catholics and Protestants was that Catholics used Church Tradition more than the Bible whereas Protestants used the Bible more than Church Tradition to create doctrine. Protestantism could only become popular with the Bible being printed for the masses. I believe that Luther wrote it and I believe that most authorities on Luther also believe he wrote it. I think that Lutherans have come up with some theory about the book to say that it was not written by Luther because they have always considered the book problematic and have denounced it from the beginning.
