Borzoi and McNabb discuss grognard tendencies, their histories with tabletop gaming, Battletech and DnD, Seventh Sea, the Wizards of the Coast debacles with race classification and the OGL blunder, M.A.R. Barker, and briefly touch on The Menu and The Last of Us.

What’s hilarious is Wotc holds up Hasbro’s stock, and they’re not getting a double downgrade from Bank of America.

Good to see the Poz Button lives! Book rec for Borzoi: “The Irregulars; Roald Dahl and the British Spy Ring in Wartime Washington” by Jennet Conant.
For Charles Beard deep dive…
When all I do is for you, Kermie.
I know you said you don’t want to research and review rare and obscure games but it’s obvious you don’t mean that so please do a show on the Orrorsh setting cosm in TORG and discuss how it’s a 1980s neoliberal critique of British Colonialism in the Indies, and how RPG designer (((Erich Aldrich))) influenced late 20th century gaming. Thanks guys I know you can do it good luck!
Should have called this Melungeons and Dragons
I don’t even play Battletech, Mech-Warrior, or Warhammer40K, but this was still a fun episode to listen to. Similar to the NIGR episode with Moike talking all about X-Com (which I do play). Hopefully you guys can do more gamer-centric episodes (or have McNabb do something with NIGR).
Wow. I didn’t realize how much of my kind of nerds you both are.
I highly recommend War Thunder, Skyrim and the Total War games, especially Napoleon Total War.
When I was into tabletops, I noticed that apolitical and right-leaning tabletop players like myself did love our true-to-form human fighter characters, usually masculine and deeply purpouse driven in design. Whereas left-leaning players especially on social media made characters that were odd combinations of races, or had characteristics that were the polar opposite of what that race would be like, usually orcs. I get that it’s book based games, and by nature people are going to imprint on them how they see fit, and that playing with the rules isn’t the end of the world, I just think it’s an… Read more »

Edit: I’m retarded.
My bad I thought NIGR was the most recent post I clicked the wrong one lol
Haha i thought somebody would get a kick out of the M.A.R Barker thing, i found it funny the first time i read through Serpents Walk that it read a bit like a roleplaying game and thinking that there is no way Pierce wrote this.
Gimme 5 Grognards for a Quatloo, you’d say.
Someone should do a deep dive on F.A.T.A.L
roll for anal circumference
Commander is by far and away the best MTG format, you gotta play it for yourself
Show 2 : Battle tech deep dive. !
Between a Grognard and a Grugnard.
I don’t care enough to look into the particulars of the OGL controversy, but if it causes a whole new generation of nerds to be disillusioned with WOTC and realize corporations are not their friend then I’m fine with it.
This was great, I listened to it while building up a car for Gaslands.
Armored Core is the best mech gaming series ever made.
It’s not even the best mech game made by Fromsoft.
Yes. I can’t wait for the new one, the only game I’ve been excited for in a looooong time
Yeah man, I had the last one on my Xbox 360 and tried playing a year or two ago, but they had shut the servers down unfortunately.
Armored core 4 and the follow up game, 4.5?, were the best IMO
It’s a Poz Button but the gontent is more like NIGR…. I’m very old school gamer so I might be a grognard except I haven’t played in over 30 years and have no desire to play. I have an older brother who I played table top war games with in the 1970s; mostly Avalon Hill. Lots of maps and cardboard unit markers. I remember you could win Gettysburg if you won the initial skirmish otherwise the game would go on for days. There was a Midway game where you spent an insane amount of time doing air patrols looking for… Read more »
Has anyone actually played Traveller because the possibility of dying during character creation is the only story I’ve ever heard anyone tell about it.
My friends played it for a few years in the early 1980s but it was never very popular.
McNabb is darker and grittier than Borzoi
I am sick and tired of this ridiculous slander about the ending to Game of Thrones. The yas slay queen got slayed, the spear niggers got sent home with no gibs, and the fat cuck simp tried to do a heckin’ democracy and was laughed away, it was perfect.
It was pretty gay though. Shitskin horde is brought in and all the decent and/or innocent people are brutally slaughtered by the race traitor queen. Game of Thrones was pretty good until season 3 or 4 and after that it went to shit. There was so much more content in the books that was either totally cut or totally rewritten for the TV adaptation for no real reason other than judaism.
It did get super gay, and I think the ending was unintentionally based because the writers were so bad. IIRC at one point when the niggers are in Westeros there is a quick line about the Masters taking back over two of the three cities, and it puts a smile on my face to think about how they got nothing from Westeros and were going home just to be enslaved again. That and the Dothraki were so built up over the whole show as this unstoppable horde, but as soon as they get fire swords they chimped out and charged… Read more »
That is pretty funny, like the true believing libtard can’t turn it off for their pet mulatto’s.
The ending wasn’t as gay as it was simply poorly written imo.
If it ain’t THAC0 it’s uhh… BADC0. Yeah, that works.
Hearing you guys desribe the technical details of tabletop brought back PTSD memories of late nights, empty 2 liters of Mountain Dew, and anti-social nerds (myself included) who spent hours making rolls, yet nothing seems to happen. The problem with tabletop rpgs is people are playing a character, not a game.
No content today is bad enough but then you kick us in the teeth by uploading McNabb content.
Battletech is awesome. I remember kind of being adjacent to it years ago with some of the games and novels, but never got into the actual tabletop. The whole recent renaissance of Battletech brought me back in and actually got me to start taking a look at the tabletop.
Go download Megamek, it’ll give you a good feel for the mechanics, and is fun in its own right.
Oh I’ve played it some. Its almost too addictive haha.
A one on one duel in a game of Battletech is fun, cheap, and relatively easy to play. Once you’ve got the basic rules and game flow down, you’ve got 2 record sheets and a little cheat sheet for the dice tables.
It’s not nearly as complicated as it initially seems.
Yeah I bought some models and have been painting them. Definitely gonna try playing some games once I’ve got a bit more free time. Dueling definitely sounds like a good idea to learn how to play.
I like listening to McNabb talk about Battletech.
yes henlo sir i was told this was hyper podcastism
Here’s to more appearances from Borzoi!
Gamer gontent overflowet.
I’ve never listened to one of these before. But I’m dying of content thirst, so I will try it.
Oh ya and first I guess.
This is the first episode of this show so yeah I’d assume you’ve never listened to it before lol.
This is the Poz Button though ain’t it?
You may find yourself between two grognards.
Yeah, they are about as rare as a Larry Ridgeway or Southern Dingo podcast.
