I got hired as a test proctor at a shitty non-profit-like place a couple of years ago that had such a policy. But they did not make that very clear in the hiring process, and overall did not prepare me very thoroughly, so when I broke one of their protocols in a panic on my first (and only) day there, they fired me just like that.

I think it was absolutely true the US avoided sending German heritage Americans to the European front.
I’m not sure about that but they did send Whites who refused or were uncomfortable fighting other White men to the Pacific theater. My grandfather(dad’s father) told the recruiter that he did not want to kill other White people so they sent him to the pacific.
