The one black family that moved in my small white community was fine but when the kids got old enough and they started dating the blacks in a neighboring area all of a sudden cars were getting broken into at night. I’m fortunate in that my local parish has a church built in the 19th century and it’s situated in a neighborhood I can walk to.

My parents first car in the late 1940s/early 1950s was an English car…I forget what make, probably an Austin or an Aston Martin… anyway, it had a little mechanical turn signal, literally a mechanical hand that would drop down or flip out, indicating which way you turning.
We learned hand signals in drivers Ed in PA. My wife and I went to high school together and she got a free pass.
