Nu metal did suck but Mudvayne was the exception to that.
Dare I say the first deftones album.. it really didn’t have much of a nu metal feel to it. Most of it just sounded like your typical shitty late 90’s hardcore, which was kinda fun.
Deftones was always their own sound and still are to this day. One of the rare bands that have either kept their sound or changed for the better. Basically the opposite of what a band like Tool did.

Interesting fact. Ryan’s(the bassist) brother in law works for a neighboring fire department here in NC. I’ve met Ryan on two occasions and he was a very interesting guy. Yeah Chad is looking bad. Years of alcohol, smoking, fast food, and touring will do that.
That’s cool about Ryan. Makes sense. I saw the whole band in their prime back in 2005 at Ozzfest. Good show, and nothing can take that away from Chad.
Ahh yes Ozzfest was a great tour back in the day! Happy you got to see them in their prime. I saw them before I deployed in 2001. They were phenomenal. One of the only bands who at the time sounded exactly like on the album but even better. The drummer(Matt) is incredibly underrated.

What do you think of post-Watershed Opeth? I’m still mad that they abandoned their signature style to play basically straight 70’s prog rock.
I am definitely a fan of Opeth’s pre-Watershed work more so than the newer material. I understand somewhat why they changed as a band particularly the vocals because the older you get it is difficult to continue belting out a two hour show with screaming/growling for 90 minutes a night every night for 5-6 months out of the year. Most recent time I saw them was 2018 and Mikael was still able to hit the highs and lows on songs from albums like Blackwater Park, Deliverance, Damnation, and Ghost reveries. I wouldn’t even mind if they didn’t play heavy anymore if I could get into their music the way I got into Damnation. I’ve listened to that album to death. I’m happy those guys have a musical means of making a living, that’s rare and good for them, but the compositions just aren’t doing it for me.
Still, several albums of gold is more than I expect from any band, especially when it’s mostly the product of one guy. Nobody is an endless well.
Yeah four bands I enjoy that still seem to consistently put out good music are Mastodon, Deftones, Meshuggah, and Aborted.
I love Aborted, at least up to The Archaic Abottoir, I didn’t keep up after that. I remember matching up “A Cold Logistic Slaughter” to the gun turret scene at the end of Rambo (2008).
Yeah those bands are the four I still follow their new releases since I haven’t been disappointed yet. One of their(Aborted) newer albums I enjoyed is Retrogore. The drummer is insane.

The last good year for video games was 2015. Witcher 3, red dead 2, and god of war all came out they may year. The industry had been fucked, but there were still a few good ones.

2007 is largely accepted as the peak.
It was definitely one of the biggest years in gaming, and nothing since compares, but it was also the last straw for me. Almost none of the games on that list lived up to the hype I had for them. That was the year I gave away all my games and tried to find something else to occupy my time.
At some point you play enough video games to be able to decipher them at a glance and they all become boring.
I dunno, Metro 2033 and its sequels are pretty good across the board.
2007 was peak, but it’s a shame they didn’t spotlight Halo 3. I believe it was the top selling media product of all time on launch day. I spent so much time saying racial slurs and laughing with a bunch of random guys in Halo 2 and 3. Those were the good days before games actively discouraged and prevented social interaction and fun. I would still play video games if they were still like Halo 3.
2010 had New Vegas, Mass Effect 2, RDR, GOW3, Black Ops, Skate 3, Metro 2033 etc

I had to walk onto a college recently, and where the sororities were there was a tent in the quad type area- in the middle of all the dorms, and big speakers. They were setting up for something, but, they were playing music loudly and what was being being played was Guns and Roses “paradise city,” Black Sabbath “crazy train,” and Metallica “enter sandman” ——there are no cultural touchstones past 1997.
That’s surprising to me, as that type of thing is usually just autotune nigger shit.
I met a young guy, early 20’s, recently that was really into Metal. The bands he’s familiar with? Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, ect…
He has the internet, too. But he only knows bands that someone would learn about by listening to the radio.

It is a coffee table book that covers the faggot scene, the prostitution, lesbian scene, the occult and the tranny scene where special attention is given to Magnus Hirschfeld, referred to as “ the Einstein of sex.” It is a Jewish victory lap celebrating this shit. Like I said, it is a coffee table book full of pictures not a scholarly tome but I have found it useful.
