I had a very similar k-12 experience as Mike. Grew up in an upper middle class/wealthy suburb of a suburb in so cal. My public high school was about 30% white, 30% black and about 25-30% Mexican. The rest was Asian. Graduated in the 80s. Now? It’s about 75% Mexican, 20% black and maybe 2% white if that. Mexicans have low key driven out blacks throughout the state so you find them in pockets. Over half of homeless in CA are blacks. They either leave the state, stay in sec 8 or homeless.

As someone from West by god Virginia my experience has been that all the blacks are in the city. You can look it up about 10 years ago there were enough problems on the west side of Charleston with niggers robbing pizza delivery guys that it made the news.
