Socl Dawinism aside, there is also just the practical economic issue. If people could make $50/hour as a programmer, or $50/hour working at McDonalds, many highly skilled people would just work at McDonald’s, since the pay is the same. This would be a waste of their potential. We need some jobs to pay low wages and some jobs to pay high wages so that people who are capable of doing more productive work will be incentivized to improve their job skills.

It’s the best anime for people who hate anime. I watched the original series on DVD in the mid-00s and was mesmerized–I had not watched anime before nor since. The original anime covers episodes 3 to 14 (or something like that) of the manga series. After watching the cartoon, I read the Dark Horse comic book manga and was hooked. It runs out of steam at one point and I lost interest. But the first 30 manga books or so are quite enjoyable.
The last 10 volumes are not so bad when you read them straight through, but reading them at the rate of 4-5 chapters a year (AT BEST) was absolutely brutal ngl. So I sympathize with you.
The Golden Age arc is a standalone story, and so are a lot of the other ones. Despite the fact that it didn’t get a full, complete ending, there’s definitely things that wrap up and are very satisfying.
It’s also the only arc that’s gotten any decent adaptations. The 1997 in particular. I would even say that many key scenes are elevated above their manga versions through the addition of voice acting and music, they just hit so unbelievably hard.
The Manga is going to be finished by the author’s assistants he had been mentoring and his best friend Kouji Mori, it will probably be a bit bear bones but we should get closure. Either way it’s an excellent read. I would go as far as to say it has strong fascist themes.
