Some humble tech observations: when connected through “normal” PIA VPN gateway the vid does pause often. When connecting through one labeled as streaming optimized it works fine. This is on Android Brave over wifi + VPN
Even bouncing off a London streaming optimized site from the states its solid. Maybe it’s an MTU/MSS issue.
Assuming TCP is being used, I’d force an MSS of 1350 (heh) to see if it helps people.
Also, all of you viewers should have VPNs anyway, and if you do, try the streaming optimized versions.
Fired up wireshark and ran some comparisons. I have to conclude that what people were seeing was just plain packet loss in the internet, possibly at some overutilized peering point for the provider where the host sits, which is across the Atlantic. That’s likely why my London Streaming point did better than the US non-streaming at the time. They probably have bi-lateral peering agreements with ISPs on the continent but pay to get across the Atlantic… and that paid connection might be running real hot on occasion. I am, it’s a bandwidth issue and there’s basically zero buffer on their streaming app to compensate
