My interpretation of the Lot story is that he is meant to look really bad. He is being presented in a negative light and ultimately this culminates in fornicating with his daughters giving rise to the enemy tribes of the Israelite’s. I think the story is essentially trying to say Israelite’s rule and Amonnites and Moabites drool.
