We discussed this up thread. It’s spaced armor to protect against top attack from shaped charges but probably doesn’t work against javelins. It does work against older RPGs fired downwards from tops of buildings as the Russians learned the hard way in Grozny about 25 years ago.
They don’t get “wedged in”. They pre-detonate the shaped charge at a distance from the actual armor rendering the warhead less effective.

Slat armor and spaced armor works by setting off the shaped charge warhead prematurely. If you understand how shaped charges work, if set off prematurely it is less effective or ineffective. The shaped charge needs to be set off at the correct distance from the armor for maximum effect.
The military spergs on YouTube say these things on the top of tanks aren’t effective against javelins but they are effective against older RPGs fired downwards from tops of buildings, a lesson the Russians learned from the battle of Grozny.
From what I understand it’s not too effective. The Germans in WWII used slate armor on the eastern front (and only there), because the Russians were the only ones making extensive use of anti-tank rifles. The armor of a Panzer III or IV could be increased enough to render those ineffective.

Some westerners thought German spaced armor was against bazooka shaped charges, but yes they were actually developed to counter Soviet antitank rifles as it was quicker and cheaper to add spaced armor than to make the actual armor thicker. The thin sheet of metal caused the antitank bullet to tumble before it hit the actual armor, rendering the antitank bullet ineffective.
