You don’t need an inverter to go from AC to DC. All you need is a full bridge rectifier, which is litterally made of just 4 diodes, one of the most common electronic components. An inverter is used to convert DC power to AC, because you’re turning a flat line into a sine wave, which requires signal modulation.
