In space, no one can hear "I can't breathe". Borzoi, McNabb, and Nick Mason discuss Ridley Scott, the Other, dehumanization in Holocaust culture, horror, feminism, and White people as monsters among many other topics in this freewheelin' rambling episode on the seminal science-fiction film Alien.

Lmfao that artwork
By the time Borzoi asked for final thoughts I had actually forgotten that the show was about Alien. Honestly got a bit disappointed because I enjoyed the other stuff more. Highly entertaining episode.
I legitimately don’t get the massive hate boner that some of the TRS guys have for Firefly. Dislike Joss Whedon and the Joss Whedon fan base, sure. But Firefly had its moments and frankly was more enjoyable than the jejune and utopian Star Trek franchise which Moike likes to talk about way too much.
Agreed. No more gay than anything else. Except Battlestar Galactica. That was pretty cool. Starbuck or no starbuck.
BSG was good, just the whole story is the Jewish Diaspora with the 12 tribes of Israel (((Kobol)))
That is why you want the Ceylons (Jewish golems) to win
There’s a “Whedon formula/feel” to anything he does – I’m regrettably familiar, gf’s over the years have loved to watch his stuff. I can tolerate it but once you recognize the tricks, they are grating.
Star Trek beyond the original and DS9 was pretty weak, agree there. The shitlib earnestness of TNG was super-annoying and the later series were unwatchable for a dozen reasons per cast – wahmen captains, Scott fucking Bakula, etc…
Had? Jonesy is no longer with us?
Glad to hear Nick validating my view on the Sigourney Question.
I did read the fire upon the deep books, those were awesome. I liked the concept of doing archeological research on a completely alien civilization and their myths (if I’m remembering correctly, it’s been a while)
i never really considered that the xenomorphs’ strategy for propagating has inadvertently made them a space-faring no-tech species
There’s a lot of shit to think about, when you really look at this film. I suppose that’s how it spawned a franchise and remains relevant.
The Xenomorphs are like bugs or a virus. No will. No reasoning. They do what they do and that’s all that they do. And they could wipe us out, given time.
No wonder its frightened us since I was 6 years old.
The fucking show art has me on the ground…
Thanks so much for the insight on the suffocation scene with Ash and Ripley and the rolled up magazine. I’m not good at seeing symbolism. My brain isn’t wired that way. I’m literal.
I always thought it was strange that he was using a rolled up magazine, to suffocate someone. It’s not a great method. My literal mind never made the connection between the magazine and the Face-Huggers Ova-Depositer, or a dick, or the fact that he was trying to rape Ripley. I always saw it as ham-handed suffocation. Never noticed that it was a Porno Mag either.
Thanks again.
i legitimately just finished that peoples square where you end by saying Aliemz will be up soon guys
and Lo! here it is
More Nick Mason and McNabb. With Borzoi as host. Great chemistry.
the art is out of this world
I was probed, once.
You shouldn’t probe me Johnny. A Xenomorph probed me once. ONCE!
