I have another possible explanation why dissidents in Eastern Europe like the Confederate Battle flag: there were several occupations and freedom fights during the history of this region and people can identify with the South, their heroic rebellion, defiance and their fate as the underdog. I think “the nazis” are we and our counterparts in Russia and the Ukraine. I absolutely think there is an intrest from the Russians to reinforce and confirm the post war order. They build their legitimacy on anti-nazism just as much as the US and UK.
