It’s amazing how Russia is literally like a conservative republican’s wet dream. Putin is “owning the west” by accusing Ukraine of being nazis and saying he will “denazify” Ukraine.
The point was to demonstrate that the Bolsheviks encouraged cultural and ethnic violence against Russians using Ukrainian nationalism. Whether the bolsheviks were sincere ukrainian nationalists or not is a tangent.
I agree that in the end all have a right to self-determination. The Ukrainian government, who refused to let go of the ethnic Russian regions and sought to join NATO to threaten Russian sovereignty, did not agree. That is why this war is happening.
The economist says, we don’t know what putin wants. They say political options exist in transparency over mid-range rockets and not flying nuke armed bombers near borders. Then they mention pipelines, economic health, trade access, and never mention ethnic russians. I think they know and it’s not on the table. The international order cannot abide independent actors.
