The hospital I’m a nurse at has more than 90 nursing staff out with positive Covid tests right now. The vast majority have zero symptoms, a handful have minor flu symptoms. One couple was sick in bed for a few days and said it was shitty, but they’re also significantly overweight.

I disagree with Mike about VR. The motion-sickness of VR has to do because you are moving in the virtual environment while sitting still in the real world. Occulus solved this problem by allowing you to create zone for you to walk around in when you are into the VR world. Not to mention VR treadmills has also helped with the motion-sickness aspect. Yeah they’re coping on VR a bit maybe, I was pretty impressed when I used one not too long ago at a friend’s house. You still traversed with the character’s lower body by using a joystick which was a bit jarring, but the shooting and such felt responsive and immersive. I could see it maybe catching on one day, but they have a fundamental marketing problem as it currently stands. I’m into simracing. It’s a hobby for me like every other hobby. I don’t play other games. I have simrig, DD wheel, pedals,… VR is insane but GPUs aren’t yet good enough for 4K per eye. Immersion with VR is on another level, you really feel like you are driving a car. After 40min of driving in VR most people get “eye fatigue,” strange feel in the head (not headache but some also get headaches),… even though you are sitting.
Lower Decks is the closest thing to Star Trek to come out in a long ass time. It has a Gentile showrunner and doesn’t hate Star Trek and people who like Star Trek. I hesitate to say that it’s good, but it manages to be ok sometimes.

You can play the original Doom (and Doom 2, Quake and Half fLife) in VR and it’s amazing. It breathes new life into these games. It’s called QuestZDoom and it’s a free mod. Same for the og Half Life.

To add to this, the headset is just a console. Meta is some completely separate app for it nobody uses. My buddies and I have been playing a DnD tabletop game lately, works great. The problem with Cavanaugh’s argument about states, is that the states have a substantial interest in health care because they do administer various health programs and in some cases own hospitals and clinics directly. The problem is that Conservatives bungled this by not making that an explicit part of the case already, i.e.: we are here on behalf of our own state health insurance systems and medical systems.
