I watched the movie as well because the trailer caught my interest and I had a flight the same length as the movie. The biggest critique that the movie made accidently is that American politics are fundamentally unserious. I thought it was a cop out for China Russia and Europe to be completely out of play by one failed launch and no foul play to be insinuated either. I would have been more interested in a plot of American missile defense shooting down the first interception attempt by Russia and that sparking a global conflict.

I actually enjoyed the fact that the movie kept shitting politicians, big corporations, media, and entertainment. It was only toward the end of the movie when it became more obvious that the bad guys were all supposed to represent right-wingers. As if the “I fucking love science” people are plucky underdogs on the opposite side of the ruling class.
Pretty much this. Meryl Streep’s character was basically supposed to be a Lady version of Trump.
