From what I understand is that the molten salt cooling requires no pumps or any moving parts at all, as long as the reactor is producing heat the system functions, which removes a major point of failure and theoretically makes meltdown impossible.
Pebble bed reactors are the next big thing. South Africans made advancements in this area, among the usual players in nuclear. Uses helium instead of water and the fuel is pebble shaped.
