Those Fraser books are from the 60s and 70s. He also wrote a great WW2 memoir called Quartered Safe Out Here
I drank a 12 pack of Samuel Adams Octoberfest and I’m not fat. I literally eat like shit and don’t exercise. I don’t understand how people get fat. Lol
I’m guessing that genetics are involved in some way.

Years ago I read the autobiography of Kurt Vinnegut’s son Mark. He lived in a hippie commune did loads of drugs and went completely mental, he describes how he tossed ff a dog at a party at one point, anyway he actually had schizophrenia and got committed, eventually got it sorted out and became a psychiatrist though. Make of that what you will.
Every psychiatrist I knew from college or primary school growing up with, were all people that had heavy psychiatric prescriptions, problems and abuse.
Psychiatrists are easy to fuck with or lie to. Just read a popular book about the “mental disorder” you want. One that you can force the system to pay you money for, than pretend to be that until paper work is done and the pay checks are rolling in.
I’m still jealous of a military buddy that did that.

It’s funny I have Kurt’s last book “Man Without a Country” on my bedside table and I read small portions every so many months.
Kurt was a wonderful writer and I enjoyed “Galapagos” and “Cat’s Cradle” aka “Slaughter House 5”. Galapagos pretty much describes a Cold Virus made in a lab that makes everyone sterile except a small ship of people that were stranded on an Island. They evolved into seals over a few thousand years. lol

The Harry Flashman character originated in the deadly earnest, sanctimonious, moral book “Tom Brown’s Schooldays”. Sweet little Tom Brown is the hero. Flashman is his nemesis. Flashman is the son of a small-time aristocrat, he’s an upperclassman, and he bullies ALL the kids. He does get booted out at the end of the book, due to drunkeness. Fraser took over the character, and if I remember correctly, Flashman really got booted because he banged the wife of the headmaster. The Fraser bookS are infinitely better than the source, and absolutely hilarious!

In re to the fat kid – parents are at fault for sure, but our food isn’t what it used to be. There’s actually a class lawsuit against chicken companies for pumping the chickens full of steroids. Peep the plaintiffs….
Something else that needs to be taken care of when we win, a complete reform of the US Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration. The number of fat people nowadays compared to when I was a kid is outrageous and it can’t all be attributed to laziness and TV.

Strong endorse on the Flashman books. Back story: All good English boys are supposed to read the book Tom Brown’s School Days. I’ve never read that book, not being English or a prig, but it starts at Rugby School in England, where early on the bully of the school, Harry Flashman gets kicked out for, I believe, drunkenness.
