Where I live in Europe you can get licenses for hunting weapons pretty easily – shotguns with a maximum magazine capacity of 2+1 or side by sides and so on plus bolt action rifles – you used to be able to buy the Ruger Mini 14 but as the police got more leftist politically activist they while acting against the law removed that possibility by just stopping giving licenses for the Mini-14. in about half the states in the US you can just buy a long gun from someone, unless you have a felony or some other legal condition that disallows ownership. Short guns and handguns can be big trouble. I never got the framing that shorter guns are inherently more dangerous. You can shoot .223 out of a 5.56 but not vice versa. Well you COULD but you’re running the risk of failure.

A 10mm is slightly larger and packs way more of a punch. If you shoot a Glock 20(10mm) and then shoot a Glock 22(.40 S&W) you will notice the Glock 22 has less recoil and less muzzle blast.

I think it was posted on here. There was a guy who fired a hot shot reload out of his .50 cal. ,blew the gun apart, and fucked himself up. No way he could have known in that circumstance. Similar thing could happen with 5.56 in .223, but less spectacularly explosive.
That’s due to case thickness. 5.56 has thicker case (brass) walls. The same amount of powder in each will cause higher pressures because it’s in a smaller space, which can be really dangerous if it was only designed and tested for .223.
There are other differences, but essentially the .223 was designed to be more accurate at the cost of velocity than the 5.56, which was originally designed strictly as a military round.
