Good poast. I was born the year TOS launched so I didn’t watch until it was in syndication in the 1970s. What with the limited selection of channels back then, being in constant syndication really made TOS a generational thing in ways older TV series weren’t.

Best thing about Turnabout Intruder is the actress playing the chick with Kirk’s mind in her body played a better Kirk than Shatner ever did. Shatner did portray an insane woman very believably, though.

Don’t get me wrong or take too much offense, but I, as a boomer, probably feel as much visceral sickness and loathing when you guys talk about Star Trek and Seinfeld (and Sports and Star Wars, etc,) as you aver to feel about certain aspects of boomer culture. Must be a generational thing. In spite of this small unpleasantness, I am totally in debt to you guys for your ability to see societal, and political culture for exactly what it is. I demand NJP make a statement on, and add Trek-Posting to their platform.
I only started watching Star Trek a year ago so I skipped over so much quality trek posting in the earlier shows. It haunts me. I need Mike’s takes on Voyager.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture actually did pretty well at the box office. It had higher receipts than Wrath of Khan (albeit with a much higher budget) and is currently the second-highest-grossing ST film adjusted for inflation.
The wiki page does say that Paramount execs were disappointed with its performance. I assume they thought they could replicate/beat Star Wars, which had come out 2 years prior and made almost $800 million compared to just $140 million for ST:TMP

Star trek the motion picture didn’t bomb, it just underperformed
Scenes that were cut from the theatrical release were added back in when it was shown on TV, and it made the movie much more coherent.

The best Star Trek movie is 4, The Voyage Home, because it’s the corniest of them. Though Wrath of Khan is the better flick.
Even 5, the shittiest of the original movies, was still better than all Next Generation movies.
