Replace water with broth. Or you can use water and just throw in a bouillon cube or 2 depending on the amount you’re cooking.

Quinoa is really hit and miss. Sometimes I will cook it perfect and like it, but I’ve yet to get it down good enough to make it regularly.
Deer get really skiddish once the gun hunting season starts. Their rutting season occurs before this though, it usually begins around the first week of November. The bucks chase after does and start taking a lot of risks (which is what makes archery season so much fun during this time). So if you’re going to hit a deer with your car, then it’s probably going to occur during the first two weeks of November.
I always go car hunting for deer on the first weekend of November.

As far as localism, it assists community cohesion and sense of reliance on each other, one dozen eggs, or repairing a broken step at a time. During WW2 rationing in England there was a lot of bartering that worked around rationing. Whether it is a blip on big $ ( or feeds into liberal fantasy world) is beside the larger goal of supporting self reliance and community identity.
This is part of why neoliberal capitalism has been a far more effective and controlling system than communism was. Becouse the economy was so disfunctional, and there were so many restrictions, people would have to rely on informal local networks of barter and such in order to get or do anything. This would result in tight communities that that could form resistance to the regime.
